BUMPERS IS YEAR'S
FINAL EAGL GYMNAST OF THE
WEEK

W.Va. * The East Atlantic
Gymnastics League released
its final weekly awards of
the 2006 season and North
Carolina senior Courtney
Bumpers highlights the
honorees as EAGL gymnast of
the week. Bumpers, a native
of Stone Mountain, Ga., tied
for the highest all-around
in the league this year with
a 39.45 in the Tar Heels'
194.975-194.325 win over New
Hampshire on Sunday, March
19, in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Bumpers, competing in her
final home meet as a UNC
gymnast, tied season highs
with 9.975 on the floor
exercise and 9.9 on the
balance beam to win each
event. She also drew marks
of 9.8 on vault and 9.775 on
the uneven bars. Bumpers,
the top-ranked all-around
gymnast in the EAGL, is the
16th-rated all-arounder in
the nation.
EAGL Specialist of the Week
LEIGHA HANCOCK, NC State,
Sophomore
Suffield, Conn.
Hancock posted a
personal-best and EAGL-high
score with a 9.925 on
balance beam in NC State's
quad-meet win on Friday,
March 17. She also won floor
exercise for her fourth
straight meet and sixth time
of the season with a 9.9,
and drew a 9.8 mark on
vault.
EAGL Rookie of the Week
MEHGAN MORRIS, WVU, Freshman
Belle, W.Va.
Morris established the new
EAGL season high with a
career-high 9.925 on the
uneven bars in WVU's
tri-meet win on Saturday.
Morris also won her first
career floor title by tying
a career high with 9.9.
Morris has won either rookie
(5) or specialist (1) of the
week awards in six of the 11
weeks this season.
