LSU’S BURKHOLDER NAMED SEC GYMNAST OF THE WEEK

BATON ROUGE – LSU senior April Burkholder was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week it was announced Tuesday by the conference office. The league honor marks her second of the season and the eighth of her career.

Burkholder, a Houston native, helped LSU to a season-high 196.825 in its win over UCLA last Friday, winning the all-around title with a score of 39.550 on Senior Night. The all-around title marked her seventh of the season and the 25^th of her career.

The nine-time All-American nearly swept the rest of the meet’s individual honors as she also won the vault (9.925), bars (9.925) and floor (9.950) titles. Burkholder’s 9.925 on the bars marked a season high, while her 9.950 on the floor tied her season best on the event.

Burkholder and the rest of the LSU gymnastics team return to action this Saturday when they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the SEC Championships at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex Arena.
