SESSION AND ROTATION ASSIGNMENTS ANNOUNCED
FOR NCAA GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

BATON ROUGE – Session and rotation assignments for the 2006 NCAA Gymnastics Championships were announced Monday by the NCAA.

LSU will compete in the first of two preliminary sessions that begins at 3 p.m. (CT) on Thurs., April 20. LSU will be joined by Alabama, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Utah in the morning session.

Arkansas, Arizona State, Florida, Georgia, Iowa State and host-Oregon State will compete in the meet’s evening session that will begin at 9 p.m.

The top-three teams from each preliminary round session will advance to the Super Six Finals on Fri., April 21, where the meet’s team champion will be crowned. In addition, the top-four individuals on each event, in each prelim session, will advance to the individual events finals scheduled for Sat., April 22.

“I think this meet is going to be a dog fight,” said LSU head coach D-D Breaux. “According to the rankings we match up very well with all of these teams. Many of them we have already seen in the regular season and I think that familiarity with these teams will only benefit us.”

Rotation assignments were also announced and LSU will begin competition with a bye. The Tigers will move to the floor exercise and vault in the second and third rotations, respectively. LSU will sit out with one final bye in the fourth rotation before wrapping up competition on the bars and beam.

“I like the fact that we are starting with a bye,” said Breaux. “That first rotation everyone tends to be a little nervous, the athletes and the judges. I think it will be good to get into the competition once things have settled down a bit.”

Action from the NCAA Championships gets underway, April 20, at Oregon State’s Gill Coliseum.
